Even without knowing the exact price, you know that kind of art is expensive. We’re talking in the millions when it comes to the price tag.
Whether it's a Basquiat, Monet or Warhol, these masterpiece collections sell for millions. One piece, like the “Dustheads” would set you back around $13 million. Unfortunately, most artists’ work don’t become seen as valuable until after their death. Where do you think the term starving artist came from?
The point is, the art someone creates is valuable. The fact that it sells and becomes a rare collectible once they're gone is proof of that.
We see value being placed when it comes to paintings so why should other art forms be treated any differently?
It shouldn’t and in modern times those who create art have decided to get their flowers and dollars now.
There’s been a recent movement of creative entrepreneurs selling their masters for profit. Entire song catalogs or a career span worth of music sold. But we’re not talking chump change…
In fact, artist Iggy Azalea recently sold her master recording and publishing catalog to Domain Capitol for an eight figure sum. That’s somewhere between $10 million and $99 million dollars. The exact amount has been kept quiet. When asked about the amount, she was quoted saying “she doesn’t have to work another day in her life.” That’s like hitting the lottery. But she’s not the only one…
Producer and CEO, Irv Gotti landed a $300 million deal with Iconoclast for his catalog.
Recording artist, Future sold his catalog for around $75 million to Influence Media Group and said the following about the decision, “My music is my art, and these songs represent some of the most precious artwork of my career.”
As creatives, all our art has value, but as creative entrepreneurs we have to know the worth and demand it.
